The Person-in-Charge (PIC) program is a strategic initiative developed by the Dubai Municipality Food Control Department. Its primary aim is to establish a clear ownership of Food Safety practices within every food business across Dubai.

This program is recognized globally, certificate is awarded by Dubai municipality approved awarding bodies who are accredited to EIAC. As part of this initiative, SGS Academy UAE offers certified and accredited training for all individuals who have direct control or supervision over any aspect of food operations.

Who is the Person-In-Charge (PIC)?

The PIC is a key individual within a food establishment, accountable both to their employer and to Dubai Municipality. They are responsible for ensuring that all food safety policies and procedures are implemented and effective across the food production under their authority.

FAQs about PIC

A PIC must be present during all operating hours, which means one must be on duty for each shift.
While the PIC oversees food safety during their shift, the license holder is also responsible for ensuring that the establishment's systems and facilities comply with regulations.
A PIC must understand all necessary food safety procedures relevant to their role and operation. They should be familiar with legal requirements for food establishments in Dubai and methods to ensure compliance.

To become certified, an individual must:

  • Complete an approved Food Safety Certification Course.
  • Pass a PIC or PIC advanced online examination through awarding body portal.
  • Register as PIC in the Food watch Portal

  • Training employees and monitoring their compliance.
  • Conducting self-inspections and following up on official inspections.
