Career Pathway Opportunities at SGS

The Natural Resources Internship, Western Australia

As a global leader in the testing, inspection, and certification industry, we’re committed to adding value to society by investing in our people and industries.

In addition to providing staff with tailored development and training programs, we’re investing in talent development initiatives with our industry specific internships to help students overcome barriers to a career in STEM.

The Natural Resources Internship enables us to provide enthusiastic students with valuable, hands-on experience in the STEM industry while enhancing their professional development and job prospects after graduation.

It's a sample of what it means to be part of a commitment to enable a better, safer and more interconnected world, and contribute to services that touch every area of human activity and improve millions of lives.

This year we welcomed three fantastic students from the University of Western Australia and Curtin University onto our Natural Resources Internship.

On the month long (80-100 hours) program, students assist with different areas of a commercial lab and work with a variety of people across multiple projects. Students are given a fast-track overview of what it’s like working in an SGS Laboratory, and can practice analysis techniques, work with high precision equipment, and build internal relationships.

Here’s what some of the interns have said about their internship so far:
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to experience what it is like to work in a lab as well as to witness a few behind-the-scenes of how things function. I would also like to thank SGS Australia and their lovely staff for having me there.
Stephanie Natalius

I got the chance to implement my knowledge and skills in real-life scenarios. I learned that networking, being enthusiastic and always open to learn new things are important. I am grateful for the opportunity and for everything I have learned as an intern at SGS.”
Nadine Lingga

Due to the success of the internship in Perth we are introducing similar programs across all our labs in Australia. This will create a pool of experienced, job ready STEM students and a formal pathway into our popular Graduate program.

We’re excited to facilitate internships and provide students with real experience working in a commercial laboratory. Interns develop skills, explore their passions and unleash their potential. It’s all part of our commitment to building a multi skilled, diverse and ambitious workforce that can help enable a better, safer and more interconnected world.”
Juan Smith – General Manager, Minerals.
