SAR Regulations

Consumer protection has driven an increase in Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing and regulation.

SAR is a measure of the rate at which radio frequency (RF) energy is absorbed by the human body. Wireless terminals, such as 5G, LTE, GSM & GPRS, CDMA, WLAN, Bluetooth and WCDMA terminals, including cell phones emit radio frequency energy.

Our SAR laboratories provide SAR testing for all kinds of wireless terminals.

Strong electrical and magnetic radiation has been proven as harmful to human health. As a result, many countries have introduced SAR levels which must be met in order to sell your product in their territory.

Country/AreaSAR limitSAR Regulation
USA & Canada1.6 W/Kg_1 gram (Recommended)Mandatory
Australia2.0 W/Kg_10 gram (Recommended)Mandatory
EU2.0 W/Kg_10 gram (Recommended)Mandatory
Japan2.0 W/Kg_10 gram (Recommended)Mandatory
Korea1.6 W/Kg_1 gramMandatory
China2.0 W/Kg_10 gramMandatory

Most countries and regions have published RF exposure standards and regulations, including the SAR levels applicable to mobile telecommunications equipment. SAR testing is required for type approval of mobile phones in most countries. Failure to meet these regulations in one country/region limits access to the corresponding market.

Demonstrate your commitment to consumer safety with SAR testing from SGS.
