Thailand Updates Regulations Governing the Use of Titanium Dioxide and its Nanoform in Cosmetics

SafeGuardSCosmetics and HygieneJanuary 10, 2025

SG 002/25

Thai FDA approved amendments to regulations on the use of titanium dioxide in cosmetic products in powder or other forms as a permitted colorant and sunscreen ingredient.

On November 18, 2024, the Thai Royal Government Gazette published several announcements detailing the updated provision for titanium dioxide and its nano form as substances permitted in cosmetics and the corresponding warnings on product labels. The regulations differentiate between products based on the form and application of titanium dioxide, specifying distinct compliance standards. These announcements came into force on November 19, 2024, with a transition period of 180 days from the date of publication in the government gazette for products in noncompliance with the new provisions. After the transition period, noncompliant products can no longer be on the market.
