SG 06/24

The EU has issued an amendment to its CLP Regulation. This revision will enter into force on January 25, 2024.

On January 5, 2024, the European Union (EU) issued Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/197 to amend Regulation (EU) No 1272/2008 on classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation, consolidated version to December 2023).

The revision contains several important changes to Table 3 in Part 3 of Annex VI to the CLP Regulation. It:

  • Adds 28 new entries, including bisphenol AF (BPAF), dibutyltin maleate, dibutyltin oxide and nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEO, with an average molecular weight of no more than 1,540 g/mol)
  • Replaces 24 entries, including tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) – a substance with a new carcinogenic 1B classification

The latest amendment will apply from September 1, 2025 – substances and mixtures may be classified, labeled and packaged in accordance with this amendment before this date.
