The Prop 65 list contains approximately 900 chemicals “known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive toxicity”. This list is updated at least annually. Prop 65 is a consumer “right-to-know law”. Unless exempted, businesses may not expose individuals to a listed chemical without first giving a “clear and reasonable warning” (a Prop 65 warning), nor discharge a listed chemical into sources of drinking water.
