The FI mark is well known in Finland and a large proportion of consumers pay attention to it when purchasing electrical equipment. The FI mark is usually based on the Finnish SFS standard, the European EN standard or the global IEC or ISO standard. The FI safety mark therefore applies to most electrical products and machines.
In Europe, products often carry the CE mark, with which the manufacturer or representative of the product declares that the product meets the essential requirements of the EU directives and regulations applicable to the product. It does not guarantee that all quality requirements customary in Finland are met, as the FI mark does.
For example, the frost resistance of a CE-marked product may only meet Central European requirements. Only an expert can assess whether the declared property is sufficient in the cold operating conditions of Finland.
Ensure user safety and test your product
A car charging cable is a timely example of a product that must withstand repeated bending in very low temperatures and rapid temperature fluctuations caused by use, and be safe to handle even when wet.
Rubber cables intended for outdoor use should withstand a bending test performed in freezing conditions (-35 °C). The test must not cause cracks in the sheath or insulation. In addition, the cable sheath must pass an impact test performed in freezing temperatures.

At SGS Fimko, we test electrical devices and grant the FI mark to electrical accessories that meet the requirements. It is a guarantee, among other things, that the device meets electrical safety requirements even in freezing cold temperatures. Take care of the safety of your customers and obtain FI certification for your product.
