SGS is proud to announce that our laboratory in Colombo, Sri Lanka has become the first in the country to receive Sri Lanka Accreditation Board (SLAB) accreditation for the testing of 300 pesticides in food and agricultural products.
The ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory recently installed liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) equipment to increase its testing scope.
This new equipment offers advanced compound analysis capabilities, allowing for robust analysis of over 300 common pesticides among a wide range of products: teas, spices, fruits, vegetables, coconuts, grains, cereals, and more. This is especially beneficial in the wake of recent concerns surrounding potential pesticide contamination in global tea exports.
Kolitha Amarasinghe, Business Manager, SGS Sri Lanka, states, "Our experienced laboratory team has worked hard to become the first accredited laboratory in Sri Lanka to offer testing of more than 300 pesticides. It is a great achievement and we're proud to support our clients in improving the quality, safety, and sustainability of food and agri commodities."
Our Colombo lab also offers a wide range of additional testing capabilities, including microbiology, heavy metal, mycotoxin and water testing.
Our team can provide inspection services for both quality and quantity verification as well as a range of fumigation and pest control services, leveraging more than 20 years of experience in food and agricultural products testing.
On Feb 25, 2021, the team won the Silver Award for the Large Scale Service Provider to the Exporters sector at the 28th Annual Export Awards, organized by the National Chamber of Exporters in Sri Lanka.
We hope the new lab's testing capabilities will bolster consumer confidence, thereby aiding Sri Lanka’s export industry.
