Regulatory Testing

Ensure your automotive electrical and electronic parts arrive safely on the market in the European Union by testing them for full regulatory compliance.

All new automotive electrical and electronic products (manufactured or imported) placed on the market in the European Union must comply with several directives and regulations. The list of substances that are prohibited or subject to declaration is included in the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL).

SGS tests for substances according to:

  • Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH)
The main aims of REACH are to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment, including the promotion of alternative test methods, as well as the free circulation of substances on the internal market and the enhancement of competitiveness and innovation.
  • Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP)
The aim of this regulation is to protect human health and environment. It covers the search of 30 substances including some pesticides, a group of industrial chemicals, two groups of undesirable byproducts and some substances like flame retardants, additives, solvents, lubricants.
  • End-of Life Vehicle (ELV)
EU rules aim to make the dismantling and recycling of end-of-life vehicles more environmentally friendly. This directive mentions the prohibition of the use of hazardous substances when manufacturing new vehicles (especially lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium) except in defined exemptions when there are no adequate alternatives.

In addition to these regulatory chemical analyses, we also provide another safety test focused on fire hazard testing.

  • Glow Wire Test
Glow wire testing is an electrical safety test designed to evaluate the flame-resistant properties of plastic materials used in electrical devices. Its purpose is to protect against the risk of fire from overheated or electrically energized parts which may cause the plastic material to ignite.
