SG 156/24

The US federal government has introduced a proposal to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) to prohibit the intentional usage of PFAS in food packaging.

In September 2024, the US House of Representatives introduced H.R. 9864, cited as the ‘Keep Food Containers Safe from PFAS Act of 2024’. The bill is aiming to amend Section 301 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act by adding a clause which would prohibit the introduction of food packaging containing intentionally added PFAS onto the US market from January 1, 2025.
