HKSAR Government recently adopted an incremental strategy for the use of building information modeling (BIM) in public works projects. Since 2018 capital works projects with estimates of more than HKD 30 million have been required to use BIM technology.
BIM is used to systematically manage information, including drawings, models and documents, such as contracts, schedules and meeting minutes. ISO 19650 certification demonstrates an organization’s ability to manage information over the whole lifecycle of a built asset using BIM, in accordance with international best practices. Its primary goal is to enhance collaboration with the supply chain, to reduce risks and costs and increase opportunities for enhancement.
