On March 28th 2025, SGS Hong Kong organized their Softlines Forum, Steering Through China’s Apparel Industry: Regulatory Compliance, Import Strategies & Supply Chain Management, aimed to explore the future of the sector, exploring topics from production, technology and trade aspects. This session brought together representatives from industry experts, global lead brands and retailers, and textile manufacturers.
The forum opened with remarks from Yvonne Tse, Vice President of SGS Softlines for the Asia Pacific region, who highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting business partners on their path towards importing their products into the China market.
This year's forum featured 4 sections, with each expert sharing valuable insights, best practices, and expectations for this burgeoning market:
- Mr. Qiuhui Xie, from the Textile Technical Specification Committee of the General Administration of Customs, provided insights on the opportunities and challenges, reflecting various market trends throughout today’s ever-evolving fashion supply chain and its role in the region.
- Ms. Hilda Koo, Technical Services Manager of SGS Softlines, introduced China’s Inspection & Acceptance policy, its benefits, as well as its application process, guiding guests to successfully export their products to China.
- Mr. Ming Zhang, a Professional-level Senior Engineer as well as a Senior Consultant to SGS, and Mr. Jeaf Su, SGS’s Director of China Business, shared their knowledge and expertise on the laws and regulations, plus interpretation of this market’s supervisory system, familiarizing our guests with relevant GB national standards to help them not only on compliance, but to improve their products’ quality, safety, and performance.
- Dr. Martens, a well-known global brand in the footwear sector, relished in their participation of this year’s session, stating that “it provided valuable perspectives on the Product Quality Law, customs clearance inspection reports, and market spot-check mechanisms.”
Overall, our annual Forum served as an excellent platform for industry leaders to share knowledge and facilitate in-depth exchanges of innovative ideas and experiences. Participants expressed positive attitudes toward collaboration and promoting a more sustainable and responsible future in the fashion industry, eagerly anticipating future events.
