UKCA | BREXIT

UKCA marking is the new qualification that will be required to bring different kind of products to the United Kingdom Market (England, Scots and Wales) following the coming into force of post-Brexit trade agreements. This qualification will cover most products previously qualified by CE marking.

The UKCA marking alone will not be sufficient to qualify products destined for the Northern Ireland market, which will also require CE marking (UKNI marking)

From a technical point of view, UKCA defines the "essential characteristics" of the product, the applicable procedures and standards to demonstrate product compliance; UKCA qualification technical requirements that are similar to CE marking



The UKCA marking came into force on 1 January 2021, however a one-year co-existence period with CE marking is expected to allow manufacturers to adapt to the new requirements.

UKCA marking will be required in the following cases

  • The product is destined for the British market;
  • Product must be qualified in accordance with UKCA;
  • The product must be qualified by an accredited third party body;
  • The conformity assessment was carried out by a UK accredited body.


UKCA marking is Manufacturer responsibilities, SGS verifies that your product meets all UK requirements.
