Utah - Notice of Exemption Update: Filling Material Listing Requirements for Slippers

SafeGuardSSoftlinesAugust 07, 2024

SG 121/24

The state of Utah has updated the regulatory requirements for labeling slippers. Effective immediately, slippers that contain filling materials in the top portion are exempt from the requirement to list the filling material in the bottom portion of the slipper.

Effective June 26, 2024, Utah has updated its regulatory requirements for labeling slippers. Manufacturers are now exempted from listing the filling material in the bottom part of slippers, although they must still accurately declare the filling material(s) used in the top section on the textile label. All other current labeling requirements remain in effect. This exemption aims to simplify compliance procedures and reduce the labeling burden on manufacturers, while ensuring transparency and consumer safety. Compliance with this exemption will be monitored, and non-compliant products may be subject to regulatory action.

Utah's Bedding, Upholstered Furniture, and Quilted Clothing Inspection Act applies to all bedding, upholstered furniture, and clothing containing filling materials. The aim is to protect consumers from fraud and product misrepresentation, ensure hygienically clean products for Utah residents, and raise awareness about allergies when purchasing these items.
