SGS Pakistan hosted an interactive session for minerals exploration, mining, and beneficiation in Islamabad.
This event provided a comprehensive overview of the crucial stages in the minerals resource extraction process, emphasizing the pivotal role of exploration as a precursor to mining.
The event, attended by industry experts, professionals, and stakeholders, shed light on the significance of meticulous exploration phases for sustainable and efficient exploration practices followed by systematic mining and beneficiation processes.
The session began with a comprehensive overview of the exploration process, highlighting the significance of geological surveys, geophysical studies, and geochemical analysis. The Guest Speaker stressed that exploration is not just about locating the minerals, but also about assessing their quality, quantity, and the feasibility of extraction.
The session underscored that exploration serves as the bedrock of successful mining operations. Thorough exploration activities enable companies to identify and assess mineral deposits, ensuring informed decision-making before committing to large-scale mining projects. This, in turn, minimizes risks and maximizes the potential for resource extraction.
The key objectives and way forward derived from the session were:
- To emphasize the exploration activity and comprehensive and true baseline data generation for which we need to strengthen our geological and geophysical survey capability, SGS has initiated the task and developed the capability for such geological and geophysical field surveys and satellite mapping. In addition, world class Geochem lab has also been working to facilitate and provide reliable exploration data.
- A well-executed exploration phase can significantly reduce the risks and costs associated with mining. To address the demanding needs, it was also unanimously accepted to boost technical capability that can only be achieved utilizing the latest techniques of beneficiation. Again, SGS is playing a vital role by establishing a lab scale bench top testing setup of beneficiation / upgradation testing facilitating for clients to develop and establish their own beneficiation plants.
In the end, SGS role was appreciated by all 52 participants from different industries in developing and facilitating the mineral sector of Pakistan.
