Advanced practices in information security management
ISO/IEC 27001 is an internationally recognized standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), reflecting advanced practices in information security management and is widely adopted across industries worldwide.
ISO/IEC 27701 certification, an extension of ISO/IEC 27001, introduces additional requirements focused on privacy protection, integrating principles and methodologies to help organizations better safeguard personal privacy.
A strong commitment to corporate social responsibility
Hanming Zhou, SGS China Regional Head of Management and Assurance Service Group, said: "As a globally expanding high-end life sciences tools developer and manufacturer, MGI’s strong emphasis on information security and privacy protection is a principle we fully support. This approach positively influences the industry ecosystem and reflects MGI’s commitment to corporate social responsibility.
“SGS will continue to support MGI’s domestic and international growth, helping the company enhance its management practices and risk-prevention capabilities. Together, we aim to set a benchmark for information security and privacy protection in the gene-sequencing industry."
Rigorous information security audits
Throughout the certification process, SGS's expert team conducted a thorough inspection and rigorous audit of the information security and privacy management systems at MGI's Latvian and German facilities. These audits aligned with the latest international standards, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO/IEC 27701:2019, ensuring full compliance with the relevant regulatory requirements. These certifications reflect MGI's commitment to protecting personal data and information assets while fulfilling its corporate compliance responsibilities.
Dr Yong Hou, General Manager of MGI Europe and Africa, said: "MGI strictly complies with information security and personal data protection regulations, especially the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We have established an effective management system to safeguard our information assets and data subject rights. The certification from the renowned SGS organization demonstrates that our management system fully complies with ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701 and EU data protection standards.
“We will continue to enhance our management practices to ensure compliance, efficient operations and the satisfaction of global regulators, customers, employees and other stakeholders.”
Industry-leading data security
MGI aims to lead the industry by focusing on data security and privacy. Many of its Chinese subsidiaries already hold ISO/IEC 27001 certification from SGS. MGI has now partnered again with SGS to enhance global data protection by achieving certification for their Latvian facility, MGI's first life sciences and technology center in Central and Eastern Europe, and their German facility, MGI's new European headquarters.
