SGS Philippines Inc. Health and Nutrition Division supported the private sector’s initiative to help the government different programs to revamp the Philippine swine industry through INSPIRE, Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion and the Bantay ASF sa Barangay (BaBay ASF) by the government which was officially launched last February 11,2021 in Batangas City.
UNAHCO, through its trusted industry partners, initiated a MOU signing held at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management in Quezon City last March 18, 2021. It was attended by the Department of Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar, Bureau of Animal Industry OIC-Director Dr. Reildrin G. Morales, National livestock program Director Dr. Ruth M. Sonaco and respected private stakeholders.
This initiative was held to create a technical working group to support the programs at the grassroots level of specified geographical areas to direct private support for the control, repopulation and prevention of African swine fever.
In the meeting, the importance of coordination and communication was stressed between different branches of the government and private sectors to effectively and efficiently implement the programs. SGS Philippines, as the third party accredited laboratory, will provide rapid testing of different matrices for the control and prevention of African swine fever to make the process smooth and manageable.
