The PCSP’s initial objectives were to elevate the standards of swine practice, the creation of continuing education programs for its members and the promotion of the relationship between swine practice, the pig industry and the interest of the consuming public. Its maiden activity was a seminar on the then “Mystery Disease of Pigs” (now known as Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome or PRRS).
Last October 14-16,2021, the Philippine College of Swine Practitioners held its 25th Pinoy Pork Challenge which has the main theme of: Swine Industry Back on Track.
The 3 day event were categorized into 3 sub themes:
- Day 1: Where we are? The current stage of and actions being taken to address ASF
- Day 2: Living with ASF: navigating through and overcoming the challenges
- Day 3: Ready for the next: Strategies to ensure preparedness.
The need to keep abreast with new technical information and advances in swine disease control and herd productivity pushed a group of “elder practitioners” to form a “college”, where they can pursue a postgraduate continuing education program through sharing of local and foreign experiences.
This time we are all dealing with the further spread of African Swine Fever virus and persuade farms to repopulate with proper guidance and protocols to adhere and through different collaboration with the government and private institutions
This year, SGS Animal Health and Nutrition was honored to be a part of this event to which the speakership was headed by Dr. Abraham Villanueva with a topic: Harnessing Diagnostics in the Animal industry: Testing and Audit Programs and was presented on day 3 it was received positively with questions from farm owners, veterinarians and Animal health/nutrition companies. The main message was: “Key to changing behaviors and practices lies in people’s perceptions of the level of risk. Identifying the level of risk is one of the goal of bio-security audit and testing” Persuasion through credibility, logic and emotions are important for farm owners to pursue the repopulation process.
When you need to be sure to Restart. Protect and Contain. Kalayaan One Program.
