SG 043/25

The United Kingdom’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has revised the Great Britain mandatory classification and labeling list (GB MCL list) for substances and mixtures. The amendments entered into force on February 15, 2025.

In February 2025, UK HSE announced the sixth edition of its GB mandatory classification and labeling list (GB MCL list) for substances and mixtures. This latest edition incorporates new or revised mandatory classification and labeling for 46 substances included in the fourth GB CLP Agency recommendation to ministers and agreed by ministers in January 2025 into the GB MCL list. These include, but are not limited to:

  • 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one (BIT, CAS 2634-33-5) – a preservative
  • Benzyl alcohol (CAS 100-51-6) – a solvent and fragrance
  • Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA, CAS 79-94-7) – a flame retardant

The final compliance date for these 46 GB MCLs will be August 15, 2026.
