An SGS testing laboratory has been opened at the KPI integrated gas chemical complex, which is under construction in the Atyrau region.
At the official opening of the laboratory, the Chairman of the Board of KPI, LLP Daniyar Tiesov noted that the laboratory’s activities will allow the production of new types of products for use in high-tech industries and create new jobs:
“Thanks to cooperation with SGS, the quality of our products will be confirmed by a world-famous and recognized company in the professional community. Secondly, the company will bring new scientific developments and research methods to the Atyrau region. Thirdly, we will significantly reduce the cost of product certification, which will be held directly at the plant, which will allow us to avoid additional costs and intermediate analyses that are used when trading on international markets.”
Certification of products by an independent international laboratory will make it possible to demonstrate that the products of the gas chemical complex comply with the requirements of national and international standards and technical regulations. The SGS laboratory will also help to reduce the time required for entering international markets by verifying the quality and safety of products for compliance with applicable requirements and regulations.
“SGS is a world leader in the field of inspection services, with expertise in testing and certification. We have extensive experience in managing such laboratories on large oil and gas projects, and we are pleased that our activities contribute to the development of the petrochemical industry. A young and ambitious team has been created here to conduct scientific and research activities on the basis of the laboratory,” said Azer Mammadov, General Director of SGS for the Caspian region.
Laboratory employees undergo training, taking part in experience exchange programs and advanced training courses in foreign laboratories in the SGS network. One of these employees is Maksat Akhmetzhanov, who has been working as a test engineer at the SGS laboratory on the KPI project for six months now.
Maksat recently returned from the Netherlands, where he took part in weekly training at the laboratory in the city of Spijkenisse, as well at the laboratory at the industrial and chemical park in the port of Botlek Rotterdam. The training plan included spectrometric and spectroscopic methods of analysis and was conducted by local method developers. Maksat said, “We have learned how to conduct analyses and tests according to the description of the device, according to its structure, as well as how to provide equipment maintenance and quality control of all measurements.”
At the moment, commissioning works for the production of polypropylene are being carried out at the plant.
The plant is the first phase of the construction of the Integrated Gas Chemical Complex. The active implementation of the project began in 2018, when it was transferred to the trust management of NC KazMunayGas JSC. The opening of the laboratory is an important stage in the implementation of the project.
