Nigeria – Cross-Border e-Invoicing

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced the Cross-Border e-Invoicing program to prevent depletion of foreign currency reserves and to tackle fraudulent trade practices related to trade mis-invoicing, price transfers and tax evasion.

We have been appointed by the CBN as a service provider for its trade e-invoicing program in pursuance of Circular TED/FEM/FPC/PUB/01/001. As of February 1, 2022, invoices of import and export transactions in Nigeria have to be provided in an electronic format (exemptions apply).

Enrolment Portal

In order to issue e-invoices, suppliers of goods and services must first register on the Enrolment Platform to request authentication. All they need to do is:

1. Access and register to the Enrolment Portal
2. Fill up various legal company details
3. Provide various official company documents

After enrolment, we will deliver a digital certificate with credentials enabling access to the e-Invoicing Platform. If needed, we may request further information in case of unsatisfactory verification.

e-Invoicing Platform

Following satisfactory registration and authentication suppliers can access the e-Invoicing Platform. They can then issue e-invoices as per the format specified by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Once e-invoices are cleared automatically by SGS, they are delivered to all relevant parties involved in the transaction. Suppliers will also have immediate access to the e-invoice and shall be able to transmit it to the buyers.
