Radon Analysis for Natural Gas

Radon analysis for natural gas from SGS provides important trace Radon 222 testing for natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other hydrocarbons.

Trace levels of radon 222 can be present in natural gas production due to natural geological decay processes. Radon will flow with natural gas through the oilfield, into pipelines, to powerplants and LNG facilities. As Radon is constantly entering with the natural gas feed, the build-up of radon decay products can occur inside equipment over time.

We offer radon analysis expertise to help natural gas producers, distributors and processors monitor radon 222 levels in methane (natural gas) and other light hydrocarbon production gases.

Why choose natural gas radon radon analysis from SGS?

We can help you:

  • Measure the amount of radon in natural gas with our radon sampling, testing and monitoring programs
  • Understand and take appropriate action to limit exposure to production employees, power-plants, storage tanks, and end-users who use natural gas for heating and cooking
  • Gain accurate radon 222 isotope measurements for natural gas samples along the entire supply chain – well-heads, pipelines, processing units, storage tanks, ships and more
  • Manage your radon content concerns

Comprehensive radon analysis from a world-leading testing provider

As a world-leading provider of testing services, we offer you unrivaled expertise in radon analysis. Our alpha spectrometry instrumentation offers an advantage with onsite ‘sample sniffing’ and ‘sample grabbing’ applications. Both onsite and offsite radon laboratory analyses are available, depending upon requirements. During testing, a minimum 10L gas sample is taken. Larger sample sizes are acceptable, if available.

Our radon ‘sniff test’ provides quick measurement for indoor radon inspection. Usually three sniff tests are run to obtain more accurate results. For normal gas measurement, we use a ‘sample grab’ protocol with a cycle time of five minutes. If the radon concentration is low, the cycle time can be extended to one hour to increase accuracy.
