What is RoHS?
The RoHS2 Directive, 2011/65/EU, restricts the use of lead and other potentially hazardous substances including Cadmium, Mercury Chromium VI, PBBs and PBDEs contained in electrical and electronic products. RoHS limits these substances to 0.1% or 1,000 ppm (except for cadmium, which is limited to 0.01% or 100 ppm) by weight of homogenous material.
On June 4, 2015, Directive 2011/65/EU was amended by Directive 2015/863 to add 4 new phthalates increasing the total number of restricted substances to 10. Products included in categories 1 through 7 and 10 and 11 need to comply by July 22, 2019. Products in categories 8 and 9 need to comply by July 22, 2021.
With 28 accredited RoHS labs worldwide SGS is your ideal partner to achieve compliance.
The EU RoHS directive is closely linked to the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) 2002/96/EC which sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods.
Similar regulations exist in other areas of the world including China, Japan, South Korea, USA, Norway and Turkey. Our chemical experts help you mitigate the risk of non-compliance to global and national restricted substances regulations.
