SGS's Riga laboratory can now conduct solid waste fuel testing, helping sustainability-focused organizations turn solid waste materials into viable fuel sources.
In November 2021, SGS’s Riga laboratory expanded its capabilities to offer solid waste fuel testing, so it can help sustainability-focused organizations turn solid waste materials into viable fuel sources.
Companies around the world are seeking to decrease their use of fossil fuels and become more sustainable. This means embracing innovative methods of reducing, recycling or repurposing their waste materials. Many have decided to sell their solid waste materials and turn them into fuel sources, instead of simply burying them in landfill sites.
For this reason, SGS Latvia’s laboratory in Riga has extended its capabilities to include solid waste fuel testing, on top of its existing coal, biomass and fertilizer testing capabilities. The ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratory has been also granted accreditation by the Latvian National Accreditation Bureau (LATAK) for waste fuel (solid) main parameters testing.
Dace Koziņeca, Procurement Manager for our long term client, SCHWENK Latvija, noted, "We appreciate the services provided by SGS's Riga lab for our solid waste testing needs. Reliable test results and responsive communication are trustworthy contributions to our efforts to meet our ever increasing sustainability goals."
Our laboratory in Riga covers the following types of tests:
- Net calorific value (NCV)
- Carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen analyses
- Biomass content
- Chlorine content
- Fluorine content
This additional capability follows our investment in best-in-class Retsch preparation equipment, which can shred difficult materials (tires, municipal waste, plastics, paper, production leftovers, etc.) down to 1 mm pieces. SGS’s Riga laboratory offers 24/7 testing services and rapid turnaround times.
Andris Tumins, SGS Business Manager in Latvia, commented, “Our Riga laboratory is perfectly positioned to help clients in the Baltics meet their sustainability goals. The waste fuel market is set to take off over the next few years, and thanks to SGS, organizations can receive rapid, reliable testing results for all their solid waste material.”
