Double Materiality Service Supports DKSH’s CSRD Compliance and Refined Reporting

March 07, 2025

DKSH, which provides industry-leading services to help companies grow their business, is preparing for the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

DKSH voluntarily changed its materiality analysis methodology to prepare for European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) alignment while continuing to utilize the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

DKSH’s double materiality analysis assessed impact materiality and financial materiality, but the organization required external assurance to validate its findings and support its journey to ESRS reporting.

How did we help?

Jan Meemken, Sub-Regional Manager of DACH at SGS, said: “We discussed exactly what DKSH needed and, after assessing the situation, our experts provided limited assurance of the company’s double materiality assessment, ensuring it met the CSRD/ESRS disclosure requirements.

“Using our environmental, social and governance (ESG) and sustainability report protocols, based on the International Standard on Assurance Engagements 3000 (ISAE 3000), we thoroughly evaluated the accuracy and reliability of reported data and data management systems.

“Through our structured, six-step approach, our team delivered a limited assurance statement and an internal management report, helping DKSH refine its reporting and prepare for an ESRS gap analysis.”

Why did DKSH choose SGS?

Simon Binder, Director of Group Sustainability at DKSH, added: “SGS has been our auditor to verify our direct and indirect carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions since 2020.

“We chose their double materiality service because of their expertise in ESG assurance, sustainability reporting and data verification. Their global, multi-disciplinary team’s extensive experience in ESG disclosures ensured a robust and credible assurance process.”

Why SGS’s double materiality expertise?

Under the CSRD, your organization must disclose its impact on the environment and people, and how they could affect your organization going forward. You must also disclose how sustainability-related developments and events create risks and opportunities for your organization.

If you are a new reporter/discloser, we can take you through the entire double materiality process, aligned with the ESRS guidelines. We enable you to:

  • Understand double materiality in detail
  • Gain the tools/processes leading up to a double materiality assessment
  • Conduct a double materiality assessment to home in on the scope of the required reporting
  • Help determine the correct resources and improve your impact strategy
  • Determine which topics are material or not, and substantiate choices
  • Conclude which reporting standards, disclosures and data points should be included
  • Enhance your journey by building better reports and strategy
