The number of hardlines products notified as unsafe increased by 18% in the EU and 21% in the USA, in comparison with Q3 2019.
The EU saw 334 products notified as unsafe, with the top category being toys. There were 195 products in this category, an increase of 23% over Q3. The main risk was chemical. 40 of the products notified as unsafe were plastic dolls. There was a 31% decrease in the number of dangerous food contact materials and a 20% decrease in the number of dangerous juvenile products and childcare articles.
In the USA, 51 products were notified as unsafe. The top category for dangerous products was sports and leisure, with 10 products – no change from the previous quarter. The main risk in this category was falls and injuries. Home furnishings and houseware saw an increase of 125% over the previous quarter, with 9 products, the main risk being cuts. There was also an increase in the furniture category – 14%, with 8 products. The main risk was falls.
