Colombia extends emergency technical regulation on food contact ceramics to January 16, 2021.
In 2019, the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection (Ministerio de Salud y Protección Social) issued Resolution 1893 of July 16, 2019 (Resolución Número 1893 de 2019 (16 JUL 2019)) to regulate the migration of lead and cadmium from food contact glass, ceramic and similar products (SafeGuardS 5/20). This emergency technical regulation contains provisions relating to, among other things, a list of HS codes for products falling under the scope, migration limits for lead and cadmium, details of conformity assessment, the use of Colombian technical standards (Norma Técnica Colombiana, NTC), or their ISO equivalents, as well as requirements for certificates of conformity (CoCs) issued by a Certification Body. The emergency technical regulation took effect on the date of its publication in the country’s official gazette (Diario Oficial) and was valid until July 16, 2020 (12 months)
On July 15, 2020, the Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection issued Resolution 1163 of July 15, 2020 (Resolución Número 1163 de 2020 (15 JUL 2020)) to extend the validity of the emergency technical regulation under Resolution 1893 of July 16, 2019 for a further six months. This Resolution was published in the Diario Oficial on July 17, 2020 and became effective on the date of its publication. It is valid until January 16, 2021.
Highlights of the resolution on the requirements for lead and cadmium migration are summarized in Table 1.
