Hong Kong has revised its list of standards for toys and children’s products. These new standards will become effective on September 1, 2022
In Hong Kong, toys and children’s products are obliged to comply with all applicable requirements in any one of the safety standards specified in Schedule 1 (Toy Standards) and Schedule 2 (Schedule 2 Product Standards) under the city’s Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance (the Ordinance, Cap 424).
On February 18, 2022, Hong Kong issued a press release announcing a revised list of eight standards for toys and seven standards for children’s products falling under the Ordinance. According to the announcement, these updated standards are international standards or standards adopted by major economies (for demonstration of compliance).
On the same day as the press release announcement, Hong Kong published the amended list of standards in the Toys and Children’s Products Safety Ordinance (Amendment of Schedules 1 and 2) Notice 2022.
Highlights of the amendment are summarized in Table 1.
