Health Canada has updated their Product Safety Laboratory test methods
On March 10, 2022, Health Canada issued a notice that the following Product Safety Laboratory (PSL) test methods had been updated.
Chemistry Methods
- Method C03: Determination of Leachable Arsenic (As), Selenium (Se), Cadmium (Cd), Antimony (Sb) and Barium (Ba) in Applied Coating
- Method C42: Determination of para-Phenylenediamine (PPD) in cosmetics and similar consumer products by GC-MS
Mechanical Methods
- Method M00.2: Sharp Edges
- Method M03: Flexible Film Bags
- Method M08: Playpens
- Method M12.2: Cradles
Flammability Method
- Method F01: Flammability of Textiles
Health Canada noted that these test methods are not mandatory and are only made available for the industry to better understand how Health Canada evaluates product compliance against regulatory requirements. Regulated parties must only use the test methods or parameters specified within the applicable Act or Regulations. If the Act or Regulations does not set out specific test methods or parameters, a regulated party may use test methods of their choice, ensuring that they are appropriate for determining product’s compliance with specified requirements.
