China has issued a new national product standard, GB/T 41002-2022 (General specifications for children’s cases and bags), the standard comes into effect on October 1, 2022.
The Standardization Administration of China issued its national standard for General specifications for children’s cases and bags, GB/T 41002-2022, which comes into effect on October 1, 2022, and was included in China’s No. 2 announcement of approved national standards in 2022.
Scope
This document is applicable to cases and bags for children under the age of 14.
Product classification
Products within scope can be divided into the following three categories, according to the users’ age:
- Category I: cases and bags intended to be used by infants under the age of 36 months
- Category II: cases and bags intended to be used by children between 36 months and under 6 years of age
- Category III: cases and bags intended to be used by children between 6 and 14 years of age
Technical requirements
The technical requirements include five parts, they are:
(1) General principles, including designed pattern or logo requirements, ergonomic requirements
(2) Requirements for materials and accessories
(3) Chemical requirements, including:
- Leather, fur and reclaimed leather materials shall comply with the provisions of GB 20400: case and bag products for category I shall comply with the requirements of category A; case and bag products for category II and category III shall comply with the requirements of category B
- Polyvinyl chloride artificial leather materials shall comply with the provisions of GB 21550
- For category I products, formaldehyde content, banned-azo colorants and heavy metal content in textile materials shall comply with the category A requirements of GB 31701. For category II and category III products, formaldehyde content and banned-azo colorants in textile materials shall comply with the category B requirements of GB 18401
- The short chain chlorinated paraffins (C10~C13, CAS No. is 85535-84-8) content of case and bag shall be less than 0.15%
- The phthalate content of case and bag shall meet the below requirements:
- Category I: DEHP+DBP+BBP+DIBP<0.1%、DINP+DIDP+DNOP<0.1%
- Category II and Category III: DEHP+DBP+BBP+DIBP<0.1%
(4) Requirements for appearance quality
(5) Requirements for physical and mechanical properties, the test items cover colorfastness (colorfastness to saliva, alkaline perspiration, rubbing), small parts, pompom, circular holes in rigid materials, stuffed materials, accessible clearances for movable segments, pulling rope, dangerous sharp edge or sharp point, metal wires or rods, resistance to fatigue of pull rod, traveling of case and bag, shaking impact, loading performance of case surface for hard cases, durability of case-lock, durability of fasteners, durability of zippers, sewn strength, durability of plastic buckle, corrosion-resistant of hardware fitting, and retroreflective performance.
