China has issued a new national product standard, GB/T 41902-2022, for nursing Garments which becomes effective May 1, 2023.
The Standardization Administration of China issued its national standard for nursing garments, GB/T 41902-2022, which becomes effective May 1, 2023, and was included in China’s No. 13 announcement of approved national standards in 2022.
Scope
This document is applicable to nursing garments made mainly of textile fabrics, and applicable to accessories such as breastfeeding cover-up towels and breastfeeding shawls.
Nursing garments
Nursing garments are defined as those made mainly from textile fabrics with a breastfeeding design (opening at the front of the chest) and which are suitable for breastfeeding women. These include such items as tops, camisoles and dresses.
Technical requirements
The technical requirements of the standard include three parts:
- The safety of the garment structure design, which must comply with the clause 5.1 requirements of GB/T 41902-2022
- The internal quality, which must comply with the requirements of table 1 of GB/T 41902-2022. Nursing accessories must comply with the requirements of table 2 of GB/T 41902-2022. Internal quality for garments includes fiber content, formaldehyde content, pH value, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines, odor, heavy metal content (Pb, Cd), phthalates, extractable heavy metals, residual metal needles and other sharp objects, dimensional change after laundering, pilling, bursting strength, seam strength, shell and lining colorfastness (colorfastness to water, perspiration, washing, rubbing, saliva, breast milk, and transfer in joints), fluff shedding and appearance after laundering. Internal quality for accessories includes fiber content, colorfastness to washing and residual metal needles and other sharp objects
- Appearance quality must comply with the clause 5.3 requirements of GB/T 41902-2022
