Since 2014, on behalf of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development Planning, SGS has provided a pre-verification of Conformity (PVoC) of imported goods program, to Republic of Burundi on an exclusive basis. The program is benefiting from the improvement provided by eTrade, the new platform developed by SGS, with the objective of strengthening the quality of service to customers. Throughout the conformity assessment process, eTrade is contributing to productivity improvement and shortening the duration of the workflow, in a perfectly secure technological environment.
Ongoing improvements
Discussions are currently ongoing with the authorities of Republic of Burundi, to strengthen the program, in particular through the digitalization of the process. The outcomes of these discussions will hopefully be released in the next edition of our newsletter.
What you need to know about PCA in Burundi
Burundi’s PVoC program is technically under the responsibility of Bureau Burundais de Normalisation (BBN), the national standards body, which aims to ensure that products to be exported to Republic of Burundi from wherever in the world, comply with international quality standards, to protect public health and safety, and the environment. Once it is proven that goods meet standards, a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is issued for customs clearance.
All products imported into the Republic of Burundi are regulated under the program, with a few exemptions, which are detailed in the Program Datasheet for Republic of Burundi, available on our website.
Certification routes
There are three routes to obtaining a CoC:
- Route A: for unregistered traders and suppliers of manufacturers of sensitive goods
- Route B (registration): for registered suppliers of manufactured goods and for frequent exporters with homogeneous products
- Route C (licensing): for certified products from manufactures and their authorized representatives
