The Directorate General for Standards and Metrology of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman (DGSM) has appointed SGS Gulf Limited (SGS) as the first approved Notified Body in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Region for low voltage electrical (LVE) equipment.
SGS is now mandated to provide a documentary check and assessment of conformity with the requirements of the applicable technical regulations and standards such as GSO and ISO/IEC. As a Notified Body for LVE, our PCA services cover the following Stage 1 products which must obtain a Type Approval Certificate of Conformity (CoC):
- Washing machines (with a capacity exceeding 10 kg and up to 25 kg)
- Dishwashers
- Vacuum cleaners
Stages 2 and 3 products are expected to be announced in 2023 and 2024.
We have also been approved for the certification of:
- Energy efficiency rating for Oman (DGSM scheme for air conditioners)
- G Mark Certification for LVEs covering categories like refrigerators, food grinders and mixers, ovens, plugs, socket outlets, cord extension sets, air-conditioners, microwave ovens, washing machines, electric water heaters, electric fans, electric irons, hair straighteners and curlers etc.
About the PCA program in Oman
Oman’s product conformity program mandates that goods falling within specific regulated product categories be certified for conformity to the country’s technical regulations and standards, or their approved equivalent.
We work with exporters to help them demonstrate compliance and issue a Certificate of Conformity, which gives access to Oman’s marketplace, avoids delays in customs and reduces potential losses from the import of non-compliant products. Depending on the certification route we provide one or a combination of the following interventions:
- Assessment of the adequacy of designs of the regulated products and their compliance with the implemented Omani regulations for LVE
- Sampling, testing and analysis in accredited laboratories approved by the DGSM
- Registration of products on the DGSM system
- Issuance of the Omani Certificate of Conformity for LVE products

Why do you need a Certificate of Conformity?
A Certificate of Conformity is required for smooth customs clearance of consignments at destination ports and borders, and to ensure compliance with Omani technical regulations and regional standards.
Requirements for Certificates of Conformity
Manufacturers and importers are required to apply for the Omani Type Examination certificate from a Notified Body. These products must undergo safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests, and the manufacturer must prepare product design and risk analysis documentation. Conformity certificates are valid for one year and subject to annual renewal.
Who can apply for a Certificate of Conformity?
Exporters and manufacturers of product consignments can apply for CoCs.
Process
- Application to the local SGS office
