China has issued an updated version of its national product standard GB 8965.2-2022 Protective clothing -Protective clothing for welders. The revised standard will become effective on January 1, 2024.
The Standardization Administration of China has issued an updated version of the national product standard GB 8965.2-2022 – Protective clothing - Protective clothing for welders. Included in China’s No. 19 announcement of approved national standards in 2022, this updated version replaces the previous version, GB 8965.2-2009. The new version will come into effect on January 1, 2024.
Scope
This type of protective clothing is intended to protect the wearer against splashes of molten metal, flame and heat risks during welding and allied processes.
Main technical contents
- Clothing should meet general requirements, including style, size, design, accessories (hardware) and lining, appearance, dimensional stability and sewing requirements.
- Materials should meet applicable performance requirements, including provisions relating to tensile strength, tear strength, flame resistance, small splashes of molten metal, water vapor transmission, dimensional stability, heat resistance, radiant heat transfer index, vertical electrical resistance, formaldehyde content, pH value, azo colorants which release carcinogenic amines, odor, chromium VI content, color fastness and the fat content of leather.
- Clothing should have correct marking and packaging.
Main Technical Changes
Compared with GB 8965.2-2009, GB 8965.2-2022 contains many updates, including:
Revisions:
- Test method for material flame resistance
- Test method and requirement for seam strength
- Marking requirement
Additions:
- Requirement for material vertical electrical resistance, radiant heat transfer index and azo colorants which release carcinogenic amines
- Requirements for leather tear strength, formaldehyde content, pH value and chromium VI content
- Heat resistance test method for clothing accessories (hardware)
