China issued an updated version of its national product standard GB 19082-2023 ‘Disposable protective clothing for medical use’ on November 27, 2023. It will become effective on December 1, 2025.
The Standardization Administration of China issued its national product standard GB 19082-2023 ‘Disposable protective clothing for medical use’ as part of China’s No. 12 announcement on approved national standards in 2023. It replaces the previous version, GB 19082-2009, and will become effective on December 1, 2025.
Scope
This standard applies to medical disposable protective clothing worn by personnel in medical institutions during medical and disease prevention and control work, in situations where they may come into contact with infectious blood, body fluids, secretions, particulate matter in the air and other potential exposure risks.

- Clothing should meet general requirements, including material, design and size requirements
- Materials should meet applicable performance requirements, including tear strength, tensile strength, penetration resistance, seam strength, abrasion resistance, flex resistance, water resistance (hydrostatic head), water repellency (spray test), resistance to penetration by synthetic blood, resistance to penetration by phage, particulates filtration efficiency, water vapor transmission rate, flammability test, electrostatic property, biocompatibility, microorganism test and ethylene oxide residual
- Marking, user instructions
- Packaging, transportation and storage

Compared with GB 19082-2009, GB 19082-2023 contains many updates, including:

- Water resistance (hydrostatic Head) requirement
- Water vapor transmission rate requirement

- Terms and definitions of water vapor transmission rate
- Requirement of tear strength, penetration resistance, seam strength, abrasion resistance, flex resistance
- Requirement of resistance to penetration by phage
- Biocompatibility requirement
Deletions include:
- Terms and definitions of particulate, static decay, decay time
- Size and specification requirement
- Tensile elongation requirement
- Static decay requirement
- Skin irritation requirement
