China Consults Over Proposed Standards for Several Categories of Product

China has informed the WTO of its intention to adopt and/or replace several mandatory standards for a range of consumer goods, including those for children.

On August 27, 2024, the World Trade Organization (WTO) announced several draft mandatory (GB) standards from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China). Three of these draft standards (items 2 to 4, Table 1 below) are intended to replace several national standards.

Highlights of these announcements are summarized in Table 1.
