Intentional Adulteration

Comprehensive audit and training solutions to ensure compliance with FSMA Intentional Adulteration rules.

Ensure your food facilities comply with FSMA Intentional Adulteration (Food Defense) rules.

Intentional adulteration is an increasing problem for global food supply chains. Acts such as terrorism target food production to cause wide-scale illness, death and economic disruption. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has responded with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) final rule 'Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration', which applies to both domestic (US) and foreign food facilities.

SGS Intentional Adulteration Program

We provide effective auditing and training services to ensure compliance with the requirements identified in 21 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 121, 'Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration'. Our solutions provide the knowledge, skills and attributes required to conduct food vulnerability assessments, design mitigation strategies and develop comprehensive food defense plans.

Intentional Adulteration Training is a one-day course that covers vulnerability assessments and mitigation strategies. It provides you with the necessary knowledge to develop a comprehensive intentional adulteration program and food defense plan.

The Intentional Adulteration Audit Program assesses your facility’s compliance with the requirements in 21 CFR 121. Utilizing our global network of highly trained and professional FSMA Auditors, we will evaluate your written and implemented food defense plan, with special consideration for the possibility of an ‘inside attacker’.

Our FSMA Intentional Adulteration Program helps you achieve compliance with US regulations. It ensures you have the correct risk mitigation strategies in place to make sure food manufactured at your facility has not been intentionally adulterated by internal or external attacks.

Audits may be conducted annually to verify continued compliance with the requirements in 21 CFR 121. Upon completion of the audit, we provide a compliance report that outlines your level of conformity with the individual FSMA requirements that apply to your facility.
