UKCA Marking for Non-Automatic Weighing Instruments (NAWI)
Unlike many of the other New Approach/CE Marking Directives, SGS does not have an alternative Notified Body within the EU other than the UK (NB No. 0120). Unless a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) is achieved in the UK/EU Negotiations, the EU will cease to recognise Notified Body certificates issued by SGS UK under the NAWI Regulations, after the Brexit Transition Period at 11:00pm on 31 December 2020.
Selling NAWI Products in the EU
If you sell you NAWI products in the EU and need to maintain a valid certificate for CE marking, you will need to transfer your NAWI certification to another EU-27 Notified Body before 31 December 2020.
Selling NAWI Products in the EU
However, if you sell NAWI products in the UK only, SGS will continue to offer NAWI certification after 31 December 2020. After that date, SGS automatically becomes an Approved Body (No. 0120) for issuing certification valid for UKCA marking.
Existing Notified Body certificates for NAWI, issued before 31 December 2020, will continue to be valid for UKCA marking after 31 December 2020, providing that they have not expired. New certificates for UKCA marking will be issued either before your existing certificate expires or after 31 December 2021, whichever is earliest.
