SGS Pakistan Collaborates with SGS KSA to Conduct Fitness for Service Assessment Project in KSA

March 04, 2024

In response to a recent incident at a Power Plant client’s process unit, the integrity of the equipment came under scrutiny, necessitating a thorough Fitness for Service (FFS) Assessment. Recognizing the criticality of the situation, the client engaged SGS Inspection Services Saudi Arabia Ltd. to conduct a comprehensive assessment and provide detailed insights into the equipment’s current condition.

In a concerted effort, SGS Pakistan joined forces with SGS Inspection Services Saudi Arabia Ltd. to craft and execute an inspection strategy aligned with industry standards, codes, and best engineering practices. A specialized team comprising Mechanical/Metallurgical Engineers and API/NDT inspectors collaborated to meticulously assess and evaluate various equipment components.

Approach:

The assessment procedures stipulated in API-579-1 were rigorously followed to ensure a robust estimation of structural integrity and fitness for service assessment. Part 11 of API-579-1, specifically tailored for assessing fire damage, served as the guiding framework for identifying and evaluating components affected by exposure to fire or overheating due to process upsets.

SGS adhered meticulously to the prescribed procedures to pinpoint components requiring evaluation before reinstatement into service. Furthermore, the utilization of API 579’s flow chart for assessing components impacted by fire damage or overheating facilitated a systematic evaluation process.

Following the meticulous collection of site data and rigorous on-site inspections, the equipment qualified for FFS level-I assessment. The client’s satisfaction with the thoroughness and professionalism displayed throughout the project underscored the effectiveness of the collaborative effort between SGS Pakistan and SGS Inspection Services Saudi Arabia Ltd.

Conclusion:

The successful conclusion of the Fitness for Service Assessment project stands as a testament to the synergy achieved through collaboration between SGS Pakistan and SGS KSA. By leveraging their combined expertise and resources, both entities demonstrated a steadfast commitment to ensuring the integrity and reliability of critical equipment within the Power Plant client’s infrastructure.

As the industry continues to evolve, such collaborative endeavors will undoubtedly remain instrumental in addressing complex challenges and upholding the highest standards of safety and performance.
