China Releases Updated Product Standard for Artificial Fur Garments

China has issued an updated version of its product standard FZ/T 81009-2024 for artificial fur garments. The revised standard will become effective on July 1, 2026.

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued industry standard FZ/T 81009-2024 - Artificial fur garment, which was included in the No. 18 announcement of approved industry standards in December 2024. This new industry standard will become effective on July 1, 2026.

Scope

This document is applicable to garments that are mainly made of an artificial fur shell, or artificial fur materials as the inner liner of garments. It is not applicable to artificial fur garments intended for infants who are not older than 36 months. 

Safety requirements and internal quality

Safety requirements should comply with the rules in GB 18401 Artificial fur garments for infants and children should also comply with the rules in GB 31701.

The requirements for internal quality shall comply with the rules in table 5 of FZ/T 81009-2024. Test items include fiber content, formaldehyde content, pH value, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amines, odor, dimensional change after washing/drycleaning, shell colorfastness (colorfastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, colorfastness to drycleaning, colorfastness to rubbing, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to water, colorfastness to artificial light), lining colorfastness (colorfastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, colorfastness to drycleaning, colorfastness to dry rubbing, colorfastness to perspiration, colorfastness to water), trims and embroidery thread colorfastness (colorfastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, colorfastness to dry-cleaning), shell pilling, seam property (seam slippage, seam strength), amount of fluff shedding and appearance after washing/drycleaning.

Compared with FZ/T 81009-2014, FZ/T 81009-2024 contains many updates, including:

3. Requirements for check/stripe alignment of side seam (trouser and skirt)

5. Requirements for seam property (seam slippage, seam strength), pilling and amount of fluff shedding
