Well Stimulation & Automated Rock Properties by Indentation (ARPIN)

Maximize value from your assets through expert technical, operational and commercial consulting for reservoir stimulation and determination of rock mechanical properties.

Well stimulation and ARPIN services from SGS provides expert technical, operational, and commercial consulting for reservoir stimulation and determination of rock mechanical properties (from drill cuttings).

Understanding the geomechanical properties of the reservoir and overburden rock enables effective planning and execution of stimulation campaigns and/or assessment of cap rock integrity for underground gas storage and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) projects.

We combine Quantitative Evaluation of Materials by Scanning Electron Microscopy (QEMSCAN) and micro-indentation with finite element modelling to determine rock mechanical properties (Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio) based on the analysis of drill cuttings.

Our workflow can be applied to the construction of geomechanical logs, or the calibration of rock properties derived from shear wave log analysis for reservoir stimulation programs.

Why choose well stimulation and ARPIN services from SGS?

We help you to:

  • Determine rock mechanical properties over the entire well trajectory based on drill cuttings, including for intervals where no other information is available (e.g., derived from core analysis)
  • Gain support for hydraulic fracturing and well stimulation design, execution, and evaluation – from commercial strategy, tendering and completion design to operations support and supervision during execution
  • Maximize value from your assets

Why SGS?

Our subject matter experts understand your operational needs and can harness the world’s most comprehensive range of integrated inspection and analytical testing services, powered by the latest technology and digital tools.
